The Donut King background

The Donut King

This documentary tells Ted Ngoy's story that is one of fate, love, survival, hard knocks, and redemption.

In 1975, refugee Ted Ngoy fled Cambodia seeking a new beginning in the United States, where he began baking America's favourite pastry - the donut - to create a multi-million dollar industry. For the next few years, Ted used his wealth to sponsor other Cambodian refugees in need of assistance. However, things took an unexpected turn for Ted in 1979, when a visit to Las Vegas resulted in him developing a gambling habit that he couldn't break.
